Safety Manager

ENSCO, Inc has an immediate need for a Safety Manager (SM) to oversee its Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) and railroad safety programs.
The SM is responsible for oversight of all aspects of our corporate and operational OHSE programs and railroad safety programs. These aspects include ensuring compliance with applicable regulations; maintaining safety program policies and procedures; ensuring appropriate safety and first aid equipment is available at ENSCO facilities; arranging, conducting, and tracking employee training; management of the training record management system; monitoring employee adherence to safety program requirements; conducting facility inspections and supporting the resolution of findings; evaluating and reporting on working environments; the handling, reporting, and tracking of safety incidents; ensuring Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are properly maintained and stored; and managing the company safety helpdesk hotline.
The SM routinely interfaces with Surface Transportation Group (STG) personnel, ENSCO corporate facilities, and human resources groups in the fulfillment of these responsibilities. The SM provides routine briefings to STG and corporate management and reports to the STG Quality Manager.
This position is based in Springfield, VA with occasional (approximately 15%) travel to ENSCO facilities and railroad sites nationwide.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of
  • relevant experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of health/safety laws and guidelines (such as OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ISO 14001/45001, and 49CFR243)
  • Detail-oriented individual with experience identifying potentially hazardous conditions and practices
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to write reports and procedures
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Visio
  • Ability to conduct data analysis and report statistics
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to prepare and present training material related to health and safety topics
  • Ability to prepare and lead management meetings
  • Experience conducting safety inspections and internal audits
  • Ability to develop and maintain performance indicators relevant to safety and environmental management
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work in labs, shop space, and railroad environments - including climbing a ladder to access rail cars
  • Railroad regulations require that the selected candidate must pass an e-RAILSAFE security background check and online safety tests to work on railroad properties
  • Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vests and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, for which you must be a U.S. citizen

Desired Skills:

  • Certified in risk management and/or health/safety management
  • Experience with document management processes and software
  • Experience working with Atlassian tools including Jira and Confluence
  • Quality Program exposure/experience (ISO 9001)
  • Railroad Safety Program experience
