Job Summary:
The Development Officer will personally identify, qualify, engage, solicit and steward gifts from alumni, friends, and corporations located in assigned geographic areas. The Development Officer will work closely with the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement on strategy to achieve individual and university goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify, qualify, engage, solicit and steward assigned gift prospects.
- Develop new relationships and cultivate existing ones.
- Make personal visits, conduct face-to-face solicitations, and assist in the faculty/staff campaign, telethon, day of giving and direct mail appeals.
- Assist in developing and executing fundraising strategies that annually increase both the number of donors and gifts for the Morningside Fund and Forever Forward Campaign.
- Attend and support events and programs directly related to responsibilities, especially those sponsored by the Morningside at large.
- Assist in all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with all age groups are required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
- Organizational skills, particularly planning, managing deadlines, and evaluating progress are required.
- Computer literacy, particularly in word processing, using Internet resources, and databases is required.
- Willingness to travel and work some nights and weekends
Education and Experience:
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required.
- Experience: Preference is for candidates with at least 2 years experience in development, or in related areas such as sales, marketing, or business.
