Publisher and CEO
Piedmont Media is seeking an experienced, ambitious leader committed to the crucial role played by local journalism to be its new publisher and CEO.
Piedmont Media publishes two dynamic weekly newspapers – Fauquier Times and Prince William Times – which are building an increasingly daily, online presence. Fauquier is a largely rural county of 70,000, with a rich history and some of the country’s most beautiful, conserved landscape. Fauquier Times has been the county’s principal newspaper for decades. Prince William County, on Fauquier’s eastern border, is Virginia’s second-largest county, and the 10th most diverse county in the nation. Both counties are within easy reach of Washington D.C. and home to many of the nation’s civil servants and active-duty and retired military.
Both organizations are owned by the nonprofit Piedmont Journalism Foundation (PJF). In this hybrid model, the papers’ publisher and staff work collaboratively with PJF’s board of directors who believe that local news is the bedrock of healthy communities and engaged citizens and essential for sound local governance.
The publisher is the face of the papers in both communities and responsible for all operations of both news organizations, including strategic planning and newsroom oversight, buildling community support and membership, expanding digital presence, advertising, marketing, financial performance, strengthening diversity in staff and readership, and working with the PJF Board on fundraising.
Salary begins at $125,000 depending on experience. Benefits are good. Interested candidates should contact Staff Administrator Aimee O’Grady (aimeedo@gmail.com).
