Job Summary
The Office of Federal Governmental Relations serves as the University of Kentucky's liaison to the federal government. They collaborate with Congress, the Administration, federal Departments and agencies, and national organizations to advance UK's federal priorities. UK's Office of Federal Relations is dedicated to advocating for the University and its education, research, healthcare, and public service missions.
The Office of Federal Relations seeks an Assistant Director of Federal Relations to serve as part of UK's federal affairs team. The Assistant Director will provide strategic support to the Office of Federal Relations on various topics, including research, health, student aid, and other higher education issues. The manager will assist the Assistant Vice President for Research Federal and Institutional Research Priorities and Executive Director of Federal Relations in successfully advocating with Congress and the Executive Agencies on UK's agenda. The Assistant Director provides strategic leadership on several topics, including budget and appropriations, regulatory, and other federal legislative, agency, and executive issues. The Assistant Director will have primary responsibility for managing UK's Washington, D.C.-based internship program, WilDCats at the Capitol. Duties include facilitating student internship placements in Washington, D.C., for undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines with various host institutions.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bachelor's Degree + five (5) years of related experience
Associate's Degree + seven (7) years of related experience
Related experience for this position includes: program administration; student support; recruitment; internship placement and coordination; instructional design; and/or student success activities

- Provide strategic support to the Office of Federal Relations on various topics, including research, health, student aid, and other higher education issues.
- Support the Assistant Vice President of Research and Executive Director of Federal Relations in advocating with Congress and Executive Agencies on UK's agenda.
- Provide assistance to the Office of Federal Relations in planning UK's annual fly-in.
- Organize events and meetings to engage stakeholders and promote UK's federal relations objectives.
- Manage UK's internship program, WilDCats at the Capitol, including student recruitment and facilitation of internship placements for undergraduate students in diverse academic disciplines with various host institutions in Washington, D.C.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies related to internships.
- Collaborate with academic departments on campus to instruct a professional development course for semester interns.
- Manage the budget for the internship program and related initiatives.

- A Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Demonstrated expertise in higher education policy and experience developing advocacy strategies to achieve policy goals.
- Ability to interact effectively with high-level university and policy leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including exceptional presentation abilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide strategic direction and leadership to multiple groups.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
- Experience in program planning, outreach coordination, coaching, teaching, or program advising, as well as knowledge of professional and career development curricula.
- Experience working with students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
- Strong organizational and management abilities, as well as excellent communication skills.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends on a regular basis.
- Ability to work remotely from Washington, D.C., with familiarity with the city.
