Position Summary: The University of Utah College of Nursing seeks an established, visionary educator and scholar to fill the Janet Q. Lawson Endowed Chair in Nursing. The endowed chair is a 5-year tenure-line or career-line appointment, renewable upon successful review. Academic rank and salary for this full-time, 12-month appointment will be commensurate with qualifications.
Criteria: We seek a candidate who is a recognized leader in promoting the exceptional student experience with attention to inclusive excellence and advocacy for student academic success. The ideal candidate will have accomplishments which reflect excellence in teaching, developing curriculum, inspiring and promoting the professional development of teaching faculty, conducting innovative scholarship and/or research, and performing professional service. The College of Nursing is committed to removing barriers that individuals from historically marginalized groups have traditionally encountered. We seek candidates with diverse intellectual, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and who possess a strong commitment to improving access to higher education for those from historically marginalized, minoritized, or excluded groups. Candidates must have earned a doctoral degree ( DNP or PhD) in nursing from an accredited program, and hold a current Registered Nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license. The ideal candidate pursues innovation and develops ideas that transform nursing education, the student experience, and healthcare, and will have evidence of high-impact publications, presentations, and a sustained record of scholarly activities and/or research.
Principal functions and responsibilities: Key responsibilities will include contributing to a robust program of educational scholarship and/or research with an emphasis on defining and progressing towards an exceptional education experience for students, supporting and advancing teaching excellence among all faculty, demonstrating and consulting on inclusive excellence and best practices in education pedagogy, providing leadership in curriculum development and teaching innovation, and mentoring junior faculty. The Endowed Chair will work closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Director of Student Services, the Frederick Q. Lawson Excellence in Teaching Endowed Chair, and the Director for the College of Nursing Excellence in Education Initiative to develop, implement, and evaluate a strategic plan for ensuring an exceptional educational experience for an increasingly diverse student body.
